Watching Tilly Dance

(Ed Bentley)
2008-05-16
E Bentley, TJ Bentley
This was the first song that I had written in a long, long time. Tilly inspired me to keep writing..
Watching Tilly Dance Ed Bentley-Toni Jean Bentley

I first saw her dance in the old town square
Boom box booming, the warm spring air
Litte red haired beauty, maybe five or six
Makeshift dance floor, crowd gathered round
She'd grab them quarters, fore' they'd hit the ground
But I saw a hurt in those eyes, that quarters couldn't fix
An old woman said she's an orphan mister, car wreck took mom, dad, and sister
She's staying with me, til the county takes her away
Chorus
Watching Tilly dance, hair flowing down her back
Long as Tilly's dancin, she's not thinkin
But let that music stop, that when she thinks alot
Is anybody up there, watching Tilly dance

Went to see her dance, later that week
There was just the ole woman, she could barely speak
I knew right then, they'd taken the girl away
She said they came this morning, I tried to keep her
Child's gotta have love, someone who needs her
But Tilly's got spirit, and I know she's gonna be okay
As time went by, I'd often wonder, would anyone care, would anyone love her
God only knows, what became of Tilly

Chorus
Bridge
In front of the tv, a few years later, not paying attention, as I read the paper
The music caught my ear, drums and hot guitars
The movie star and his new bride dancin'
Holdin' each other, you could see the passion
Guess who it was, dancing with the stars

Last chorus
Watching Tilly dance, hair flowing down her back
These days, all the world is watchin' Tilly
I can hear the ol' woman say, Tilly's gonna be okay
Thinking takes me back, while I'm watching Tilly dance
Memories flashin' back, as I'm watching Tilly dance
Is anyone up there, watching Tilly dance
I just know they're up there, watching Tilly dance
